Motorola Edge+ Specifications and Detailed Review: The Flagship You should Consider

Motorola Edge Plus has hit the Right spot but...

Whenever we talk about Flagship the first phones come into our mind is Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S series and Oneplus which is now a flagship but Motorola is the new story of Flagship segment and is making headlines.Let's go on a drive to see the latest offering from Motorola.

Motorola Edge Plus marks the entry of Motorola in flagship space after a long time. While Motorola was famous for its affordable G lineup but then it got lost for a while and Moto was launching One Series phones for quite a time.Earlier we saw the Moto Razr the foldable phone from Motorola but this time the Phone is taking on Giants.

DESIGN : NEW AND OUT OF THE BOX

This is a tall phone with dimensions of 161.1 x 71.4 x 96.4mm but has a decent form-factor.This phone has curved display as well as Metal-Glass sandwiched design on back.No doubt the display looks seamless. We are seeing an all-screen design from Motorola with almost insignificant bezels. The color variants are Thunder Grey and Smokey Sangria. This is not an usual gradient design but a smooth finish.

The camera module has a small bump even though it sports a 108 Megapixel sensor. But this is a thick phone with 9.6 mm even though its a tall one with a decent form factor.Amidst the good things there is a BUT, it has no IP 68 rating against dust and water whereas it's flagship counterparts have it.It has the best hardware out there and despite this BUT it has all a flagship should have.

DISPLAY: BEST PART OF THIS PHONE

The display is a 6.7 inch AMOLED curved edge display with 2340 x 1080 FHD+ resolution with 21:9 aspect ratio. It is a 90Hz refresh rate display. It has also HDR10+ support on-board.The display is flagship in true sense and this might be the X-factor of this phone. There is always issue of false touch on the curved edges but the Phone eliminates that issue. Even though the competition has 2K display but still it has vibrant, sharp and ounchy colors. 90Hz display makes the UI more smooth. It has also a edge notification light.

Processor: Top Notch as seen on flagships of 2020

The Phone uses the Flagship and powerful Snapdragon 865 chip which has Adreno 650 GPU. It comes with only one variant of RAM on-board which is 12 GB which is LPDDR5 RAM and a 256 GB UFS 3.0 Storage. This performance cannot be even doubted with such a powerful chip onboard and it beats Samsung S20 series which comes with Exynos 990(for INDIA).We all know Exynos and Snapdragon's difference on performance and graphics .So Motorola Edge+ takes a upper hand here.

Battery: Impressive

I have personally used Motorola G series phones and its battery performance was impressive .So this flagship isn't a exception with 5000 mAh battery which is same size as Samsung S20 Ultra . Motorola claims the battery can deliver more than 2 days of uptime. It has 15 Watt charger out of the box and can support 15W wireless charging and 5W reverse wireless charging

Camera: Versatile

Motorola has done its best it would could in this department with almost no compromises .The Rear camera module has a 108 MP, f/1.8 , 1/1.33' sensor with OIS, a telephoto lens of 8 MP f/2.4, 3x optical zoom with OIS, the ultra wide camera which also doubles as Macro camera is a 16MP shooter has 117-Deg Field of View and a fourth sensor is a Time of Flight sensor.
The front has 25MP camera f/2.0 . The 108 MP sensor is based on pixel-binning technology which is actually a 27 MP camera. The best thing they did with 3x zoom of Telephoto lens.
You can shoot videos upto 6K resolution. The app has multiple modes like usual potrait and macro feature as well as spot color, night vision, live filter .There are also AR stickers. But why they opted for 6K display instead of 8K is surprising.

UI: Clean

The phone runs on Android 10 and has Moto customization's. Motorola calls it own software which is largely stock android Motorola MY UX. Motorola has committed on two major Android updates along with security patches. You can shake the phone twice for turning on flashlight and twist your wrist once to launch the camera.
On security there is only optical in-display fingerprint but no face unlock.

Verdict: The Greats and Buts

The final question is should you buy this for Rs.74,999 ? Is it worth. But before jumping into conclusion lets see the good things this device offers .
GREATS

The Phone  has answered almost everything a Flagship should have. The impressive display, the clean bloatware free look , the Rear Camera department is better than competition. Whereas Mi 10 5G settles down with one of the lens being  2MP macro completely misses out the telephoto lens with OI(Optical Image stabilization).

BUTS

But there are some blanks which Motorola misses to fill it.As I said it has no IP rating, it misses out a 2K display or even 120Hz refresh rate. This does not mean the display is bad but the competition is offering this at or below this price. Also the Charger could have been better . A 18 Watt charger out of the box definitely is the least in 2020 where Realme and Iqoo are offering 65W and 55W charging under Rs.40,000 and even One Plus has 30W Warp Charge which is good enough so a 30 or 40 Watt charger could have sealed the deal.If Motorola could have filled this blanks at this price then it would have been definitely the best phone .
Even if they didn't want to answer this they could have priced it around Rs.60,000 which could make many buyers think .

The Verdict

The Phone is a great offering if we keep aside the BUTS . It has all such as Processor,5G,Camera Versatility,Excellent Audio ,Battery. My only question is the charger and IP rating which Motorola could have done it better considering the price.

But if you want to try something different from Samsung ,OnePlus or Huawei this Phone is Spot-on. A fresh phone with excellent capabilities .

This is the end of TECH AIR Motorola Edge Plus review.
